Washington State requires all drivers to carry liability insurance and the minimum requirement is as the title states 25/50/10. Before I entered the insurance field these numbers and slashes meant nothing to me but proof that I wouldn't get a ticket if I was pulled over.
The first number states that if the driver was liable (at fault) and injured another person your insurance would only pay $25,000 for medical damages per person and $50,000 total for all persons injured.
The last number indicates that the insurance would only pay $10,000 to cover costs of the other vehicle that was hit. The majority of cars on the road cost way over $10,000.
Calling a 1-800 number and buying 25/50/10 might be easy but doesn't really protect you.
Often times having higher coverages only costs you a couple of dollars a month. In the end if you were in an accident it could save you $100,000 of dollars.
